Join Us in Prayer and Fasting

By seeking God’s Kingdom above all else, we acknowledge His sovereignty and intimate knowledge of our lives. To worship Him is to know Him more deeply.

As we individually seek God’s face and His Kingdom, let’s draw closer to our Lord and Savior. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus reminds us that when we seek His Kingdom first, all else will be given unto us.

In Isaiah 65:24, God says, “Before they even call to me, I will answer; while they are still speaking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers.” This promise reassures us that God knows our needs and desires to meet them when we prioritize seeking Him.

As we seek to know God more intimately, we will also explore the rich tapestry of His names and attributes revealed in Scripture, such as Yahweh, Elohim, and Adonai, which unveil His character and nature.

Over the next 21 days, let’s focus on seeking God’s Kingdom and deepening our understanding of who He is.

Understanding Prayer and Fasting

The Heart of Spiritual Discipline

Prayer and fasting are profound spiritual practices that open the heart to divine guidance and strength. Through fasting, we detach from worldly distractions, allowing us to focus on our spiritual journey. This sacred discipline not only purifies the body but also enriches the soul, fostering a deeper relationship with God and a clearer understanding of His will.

Understanding Fasting

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that involves abstaining from food or certain types of food for a designated period. Its purpose is to draw closer to God, seek spiritual clarity, and cultivate a deeper sense of reliance on divine guidance. By setting aside physical nourishment, individuals focus on spiritual growth and reflection.

How to Fast Effectively

To fast effectively, begin by setting clear intentions and choosing the type of fast that aligns with your spiritual goals, whether it’s a full fast, water fast, or Daniel fast. Prepare your body by gradually reducing food intake before starting. During the fast, stay hydrated, dedicate time for prayer and meditation, and listen to your body’s signals. Break the fast gently with light meals to ease back into regular eating habits.

Reasons to Fast

Fasting offers numerous spiritual and personal benefits. It enhances spiritual focus, allowing for a deeper connection with God. It also encourages self-discipline, helping to break unhealthy habits and foster a sense of gratitude. Additionally, fasting can provide mental clarity and emotional healing, offering a renewed perspective on life’s challenges.

Jesus gave us an example by fasting before beginning His ministry on earth. He was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit and fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. You can read more about this part of Jesus’ life in Matthew 4.

In Matthew 6, starting in verse 5, Jesus teaches us about prayer and fasting.
